The Global Device and Packaging Department (GDPD) is launching its first GMP manufacturing plant for the assembly of combination products at the Novartis Campus in Schaftenau. Starting from 2026, the GDPD Pilot Plant will assemble pre-filled syringes into different types of medical devices and become a key player in the supply of world-wide clinical trials. We are currently looking to build a motivated and talented team, with an interest to set up and maintain all processes required to make a combination product and to prepare the plant for its first batch and beyond. About the Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Organizing and overseeing general activities within the daily pilot plant operations (e.g. gowning, cleaning, HSE, archive).

Production

  • Support with the setup of a new production area by designing and optimizing new process flows and authoring new procedures in alignment with GMP and HSE rules as well as local regulations.
  • Organizing, participating and documenting production processes (assembly and packaging), operating the equipment and troubleshooting at the line. Perform operators on-boarding, training and training status follow-up.
  • Suggest and implement improvement actions (organization, process, safety, hygiene, etc.) at shop floor.
  • Support with root cause investigations for production deviations.
  • Support with health authority and internal inspections.

Logistics

  • Create a new hub for sample shipments for the GDPD organization in Schaftenau.
  • Support the logistics department with receipt, sampling and shipments.
  • Support with the placement and tracking of POs (e.g. for packaging materials).
  • Learn and support with the implementation of SAP at the site.

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in a relevant area (e.g. Production, Engineering), with 2+ years of job experience in a relevant area, preferably in a GMP environment.
  • Experience with SAP in any area is a plus.
  • Interest in understanding and maintaining complex equipment.
  • The ability to work and solve tasks reliably with minimal supervision and to proactively handle challenges in a new manufacturing site.
  • Creativity to develop new concepts from scratch and put them into action.
  • Willingness to build up and integrate into a new, supportive and flexible team with a hands-on mentality.
  • Fluent English, German is a plus.

In addition to a market-competitive base salary, we offer an attractive incentive program, a modern company pension scheme, childcare facilities, learning and development opportunities as well as worldwide career possibilities within the Novartis group. In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is € 54.735,38 a year (on a full-time basis). The actual salary will be significantly higher, as we strive to maintain a competitive position in the market and consider your previous experience, qualifications and individual competencies.
